Nucleic Acid Biomedical Engineering Lab
Established in 2021, our research group is committed to building a new technology of programmable nucleic acid probes based on the practical problems of clinical diagnosis, combining the physical and chemical properties of nucleic acids, and using the fusion of biotechnology (BT) and computer technology (IT) to realize the development of new detection technologies of genomes and transcriptomes with more accurate and higher throughput. At the same time, a new DNA data storage technology based on high throughput fast and accurate reading and writing is developed. The main research areas of the research group include three aspects:
1. Massively parallel nucleic acid probes design;
2. Cancer precisional diagnostic;
3. DNA information storage.
Our Research
Massively parallel nucleic acid probes design
We are developing massively parallel nucleic acid probes to enable high-throughput, simultaneous targeting of multiple genetic sequences. This approach boosts diagnostic efficiency, allowing for faster and more cost-effective screenings with improved accuracy.
Cancer precisional
diagnostic
By considering thermodynamics and kinetics, we aim to precisely detect biomarkers or specific gene expression changes associated with cancer, enabling early diagnosis and prediction, and providing personalized precision medical services to patients.
DNA information
storage
We aim to develop a storage system with higher density and fewer errors, utilizing DNA as the storage medium. Simultaneously, we are developing diagnostic standards for storage systems to ensure the integrity and accuracy of information during the storage process.
Principal Investigator
Ping Song
Dr. Ping Song is the Associate Professor of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Dr. Song received her Ph.D. degree from Shanghai Institute of Applied Physics in Chinese academy of sciences. Then Dr. Song worked in Rice University as a postdoctoral researcher for one year and then was promoted to be a senior research scientist for four years. At the same time, Dr. Song part-time worked in NuProbe Inc as a senior research scientist and took charge in multiple projects. She has published many papers in top journals like Nature Biomedical Engineering, Nature Communications, Nature Protocols, Cancer Discovery, Nano Letters et al. In addition, Dr. Song focuses on commercialization of scientific and research findings. She has many Chinese patents, American patents, and international patents and some of the patents were licensed to company to be developed as kits.
